Her Place in the Woods; The Life of Helen Hoover by David Hakensen

In this episode, I spoke with David Hakensen about his biography of Helen Hoover, beloved nature writer who once lived on the Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Hoover and her husband made their home among old growth pines and the animals of the Northwoods, befriending a family of deer who visited her yard year after year. Rich with detail and informed by impressive scholarship, Hakensen fleshes out Hoover’s life as well as her early career.
